First Place Finish For Blue Angels

First Place Finish For Blue Angels

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The Mount Mary University golf team finished first in their dual with Alverno College. The Blue Angels won 442-470 over the Inferno at Currie Park Golf Course today.

As the fall session of NCAA golf comes to a close, the Inferno and Blue Angels battled it out on the course and had some amazing rounds for both teams.

Jazmin Vazquez led the round with an Alverno all-time low score of 99. Vazquez finished with five pars on the day to add to her record setting score.

Michelle Argenzio (Sr./Brookfield, Wis.) again notched a low score, this time finishing with a  101. The senior finished the 13th hole with a chip from the rough to the bottom of the cup for a birdie. Argenzio will finish the fall session with a 105.5 strokes per round average, and that makes four of her six rounds under 110, the best for her team in both categories.

Taylor Yordt (Fr./Omaha, Neb.) was perhaps the most surprising. The freshman has averaged a 125 score per round this season, but finished with her season's best 108 today.

Madison Ledda (Fr./Tracy, Calif.) had a similar finish. The rookie has averaged 127 strokes per round and finished her round at Currie with a season's low of 113.

The big finish from Ledda and Yordt made it possible for the Blue Angels to separate from the Inferno and take home the victory.

"The ladies really finished up the fall season strong." Coach Marc Heidorf on the team's success, "When you look and see improved scores nearly across the board, especially from the three freshmen, Michelle chipping in from distance for birdie... it was a fun day and one that really displayed the strides we have taken just since we started less than a month ago. I don't know that I could have envisioned a more positive beginning for our Blue Angel golf program."

The Blue Angels finish the fall session with four first place finishes in six events. The successful start to the program is just one of many big steps MMU golf will take.
