Blue Angels Golf: Season In Review Fall 2015

Blue Angels Golf: Season In Review Fall 2015

MILWAUKEE -- The first ever fall season for the Mount Mary University golf team is all wrapped up. The Blue Angels made some big steps with plenty of "firsts" this season, but finishing first in four of the six events was a pleasant surprise for all except the MMU opponents.

In the first event of the season, the Blue Angels went toe to toe with their longtime rival school Alverno. Despite being less experienced than their opponent, the Blue Angels pulled together and defeated the Inferno with a team score of 477-545.

Longtime golfers, but first time in the collegiate realm, Michelle Argenzio (Sr./Brookfield, Wis.) and Sydney Dahlstrom (Sr./Marquette, Mich.) really added to the team and were the difference in the opening win against Alverno.

Argenzio came through with some big rounds in the inaugural MMU golf season. One of the biggest rounds was in a rematch against Alverno where Argenzio finished with her season's best 100 at Currie Park Golf Course. The first place finish for Argenzio was not enough to win the dual against Alverno, but the round score is the best round for any MMU player to date.

Following that round, the Blue Angels went on to finish first in three more duals. With a lot of early success, the MMU golfers continued to work on their craft and by the end of the season had four first place finishes and continually lower round scores.

"This season was everything." A proud Head Coach Marc Heidorf added, "Not only did we accomplish what we set out to do (and then some) but I think we had fun doing it. That's huge."

Scores were cut down from across the entire roster, one standout was a 108 finish for Taylor Yordt (Fr./Omaha, Neb.) who averaged a 129 round score before her amazing score.

That low round for Yordt was one of the more memorable moments of the season, coach Heidorf commenting on some of his, "…improving our team scores each meet.  And it's tough to describe, but the biggest smile coming over my face watching some of our kids hit just the prettiest tee shots you've ever seen!"

The Blue Angels capped off their season with a team best 442 score, enough to beat a hungry Alverno team who finished with 470. Argenzio ended her season on a high note, getting a 101 round score.

MMU cut scores all year round, and with the vast spectrum of player experience the high team finishes has coach Heidorf quite happy with his team, "Some kids had never golfed before. Some did because I asked them to. Regardless of what brought them there, they didn't just show up. They worked and not because of some practice schedule that told them they had to. They did it because they had that drive."

It is an exciting beginning for the Blue Angels golf team, with all the dedication and commitment from the MMU student-athletes, the team's future looks bright.
