2016 Blue Angels Golf Preview

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University Golf Program is looking to continue the success they experienced last season as they get ready for year two of the program. The season begins Saturday Sept. 3 at the MMU home course, Currie Park Golf Course.

Last year, the Blue Angels started their inaugural season with a sizable 477-545 win over longtime cross-town rival Alverno. The win by MMU was led by then seniors Michelle Argenzio ('16) and Sydney Dahlstrom ('16).

Both seniors consistently finished near the top in every event they attended. Argenzio set the Blue Angels single round low score at 100 strokes on Sept. 6, 2015. The seniors continued to lead MMU to low scores and came away with four team first place finishes in six events.

The success was not limited to the seniors as the entire team whittled down their scores the entire 2015 season. Madison Ledda (So./Tracy, Calif.) began the season with a 129 score at Currie Park Golf Course; Ledda shot a 113 in her final round of the season at Currie.

It seemed the final round of the season brought out some of the best scores in the entire lineup for MMU. Taylor Yordt (So./Omaha, Neb.) finished the 2015 season with a score of 108, after averaging 125 the entire 2015 season.

Along with the continually improving returners, the Blue Angels look to increase depth to the roster in 2016. Adding three golfers to the team along with the experience of four of last year's letter-winners, could mean another big step for the Blue Angels.

"Now we have this real great interesting mix of kids that have played the game before at the high school level."  Head Golf Coach Marc Heidorf added, "A couple kids that started last year that wanted to come back. And then a couple players that heard about the experience from those players and wanted to experience it for themselves."

With the new group comes new expectations and already the new team chemistry is having an impact on the commitment to the program. Noticing the new level of commitment so soon, Coach Heidorf is pleased with the differences, "I've already noticed between the offseason kids texting me saying, 'Hey I got out on the course today.' To a couple saying, 'I went and found a swing coach...'"

In addition to the added depth, MMU will venture out and add four new NCAA DIII institutions in their second season. Multiple Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference teams along with Carroll, Lake Forest and a rematch with Carthage.

The Blue Angels get underway Sat. Sept. 3 at 10:32 am. The opener will be held at MMU's home Currie Park Golf Course and will pit the Blue Angels against Lakeland and rival Alverno. Check out mtmaryathletics.com for the scores.
