Foresters Place First

HIGHLAND, Ill. – Today at the Highland Park Country Club, host Lake Forest defeated the Mount Mary University golf team with the final team scores at 435-474. Cece Cruz led the way for the Foresters and individual play with a score of 89.

As a team, the Blue Angels posted their best collective score of the season at 474, a full five strokes under their Sept. 18 performance at Currie Park Golf Course.

With one of the best rounds in Mount Mary golf, Jaqlyn Artman (Fr./Eldorado, Ill.) shot a 48 in her first nine holes, then finished the back nine with a 46 for a 101. The Blue Angels best round of 18 was a 100 by graduate Michelle Argenzio ('16) at Currie Park Golf Course on Sept. 6, 2015.

Artman's round was good enough for third place as two Lady Reds, Cruz and Yuka Kawata (94), shot under 100 for the 18 holes.

In fifth place, Peyton Davis (So./Tracy, Calif.) was one stroke off of her season's best round. After turning in a 63 in the front nine, Davis chipped away and finished with a 120 after two bogeys helped her in the round.

Right behind Davis, Madison Ledda (So./Tracy, Calif.) and Courtney Furlow (So./Appleton, Wis.) finished in sixth and seventh place respectively. Ledda's best hole of her 126 score was the sixth hole, a 312 yard par-4 where she finished with a par. Furlow finished with a 127, on stroke off of her collegiate best.

The Blue Angels will wrap up their fall season with a dual against Carthage tomorrow morning, Sat. Oct. 1. MMU and the Lady Reds will take their first swings at 10:16 am at Currie Park Golf Course in Wauwatosa, Wis. Updates for the round and all MMU Athletics can be found at mtmaryathletics.com.
