MMU End Season With Top Scores

MMU End Season With Top Scores

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The Mount Mary University golf team hosted Carthage College today at Currie Park Golf Course. The visiting Lady Reds won the round 361-460 over the Blue Angels. Kailey Taebel led the individual scoring with an 87 round score to help her Lady Reds take home the win on the rainy and muddy day.

As a team, the Blue Angels gave their best effort of the 2016 season as they closed things out. A unified 460 score for MMU is just 18 strokes of the school's record low score at Currie Park Golf Course.

Recording her best collegiate round, Peyton Davis (So./Tracy, Calif.) finished in sixth place and turned in a 113 after coming out of the turn with three bogeys.

Teammate Jaqlyn Artman (Fr./Eldorado, Ill.) was a few strokes behind her season's best score, but her 105 is the best round Artman has completed at Currie Park. The freshman's fifth place finish included two pars on the day. One of the pars coming on a 373 yard par-4 after the turn.

The kids persevered through some miserable conditions on the course.  The focus was outstanding and a great display of how far this team has come." Head Golf Coach Marc Heidorf added, "Jaqlyn continued her solid weekend, nailing some long putts and flirting with the school record again while Peyton put up her best score of the season!"

Mere strokes behind Davis, Taylor Yordt (So./Omaha, Neb.) turned in a par on the 163 yard par-3 on the fifth hole, then completed the round with a total 118 strokes.

"The ball was booming off of Taylor's club as she held her own pretty well playing in the first group for the first time." Coach Heidorf went on, "Her chip in for par on #6 was one of the better shots around the green all afternoon."

Teammates Ariel Oviedo (Sr./Shawano, Wis.) and Katie Swofford (So./West Allis, Wis.) turned in their best rounds of the 2016 season. Oviedo placed 11th individual play out of the 13 golfers with a 127. Courtney Furlow (So./Appleton, Wis.) was right behind Oviedo with a 132 on the day.

The Blue Angels now close out the fall season, and await spring like the rest of the Midwest. As always, stay tuned to mtmaryathletics.com for all the updates on the upcoming schedules and all Mount Mary University Athletics.
