2017-18 Blue Angels Golf Preview

2017-18 Blue Angels Golf Preview

MILWAUKEE -- The Blue Angels will hit the links for the third season this Saturday. The budding program started to spread their wings and venture out to play some new competition last season and look to build once more.

After two seniors got the program off to a great start in year one, the metaphorical torch was passed to then-newcomer Jacqlyn Artman (So./Eldorado, Ill.). As the Mount Mary University Athletic Department recently added the guidance of Rob Elliott, a professional golfer with years of playing and coaching experience, the next season will look to continue the growth of the emerging program.

Last season the Blue Angels raised the level of competition and ventured across state lines for the first time in team history. The new experiences added with the tougher opponents brought out some of the best play from the Blue Angel golfers.

Artman set the best round of the season for her team against Lake Forest College. New to the Highland Park Country Club, Artman shot a 101 through the 18 holes. The low score was good enough to place the rookie golfer in third, which tied her mark for best placing of the season.

This season the Blue Angels look to capitalize off the tutelage of Rob Elliott. Coach Elliott is a member of Professional Golfers' Association of America, or the PGA. Recently working with area youths at the Rob Elliott Golf Academy, coach Elliott does not only come to MMU with years of teaching and coaching experience, he also brings a level of passion and excitement for the game. Earning four national awards for the PGA President's Council on Growing the Game, Rob Elliott's love for the game will hopefully translate into more success for the Blue Angels.

MMU returners Artman and Courtney Furlow (Jr./Appleton, Wis.) who help solidify last season's roster. The Blue Angels also welcome three new members to the golf program as the get ready for the 2017 season.

Hosting four events this season, the Blue Angels will grab the upper-hand with the lay of the land and the knowledge of Currie Park Golf Course. However, MMU will open up the season against familiar rival Alverno College on Sat. Sept. 2 with tee times set for 1:00 pm.
