Blue Angels Open With Victory

GREENFIELD, Wis. – The Mount Mary University golf team won their first dual match of the season today. Rival Alverno College hosted the 18-hole round at Greenfield Park Golf Course. Despite the rainy weather, the Blue Angels persevered to finish with a team score of 503 over Alverno's 526.

Jacqlyn Artman (Eldorado, Ill.) began her sophomore season with three pars in her opening round and a first place finish. Artman's 45 strokes in the back nine was a full 11 strokes less than the field. The sophomore finished with a 96 on the round, 23 strokes less then second place (Alverno's Hannah Kelsey).

Newcomer Haley Jacquez (So./Oakley Calif.) kept the field even with a fourth place finish and 122 score. Jacquez joined the golf team this offseason after a stellar freshman season on the Mount Mary softball team. In her first collegiate round hit multiple bogeys and kept her score above the pack to help bring home the 526-509 win.

Returner Courtney Furlow (Jr./Appleton, Wis.) started off the season shooting a 64 in the first nine. Then the junior was able to hit 66 after the turn to finish with 130 for fifth place in the opening match. Furlow found her best hole on No. 7 when she hit for par.

In her first collegiate competition, Kaylie Cook (Fr./Fairborn, Ohio) finished with an eighth place finish and a 155 score.

The Blue Angels get the win to open the season and look to return to action Fri. Sept. 8. A three team match, the Blue Angels will host Alverno College and Lakeland University with first swing at 1:00 pm. Follow mtmaryathletics.com for updates and final scores.
