Inferno Take Opener

GREENFIELD, Wis. – The Mount Mary University golf team opened up their season today against their historic rival Alverno College. The Inferno took the opening win with a 491-556 team score over the Blue Angels at Greenfield Park Golf Course.

Returning for her second season on the squad, Haley Jacquez (Jr./Oakley, Calif.) scored a team leading 118 on the round. The junior finished in third place overall after a pair of Inferno tied for first place with 115 scores: Senior Mary Kate Sulikowski and freshman Kaitlyn Schmick.

Jacquez led off the round with one of her best holes of the day. She nailed a par on a 361-yard par-4 to begin the round, one of two pars on the day for the junior.

Sophomore Kaylie Cook (Fairborn, Ohio) finished fifth in individual scoring. Cook's best hole on her 144 final score was on the fifth hole when she bogeyed the 315-yard par-4.

Both Kirsten George (So./Fairborn, Ohio) and Taylor Hienbuecher (Fr./Sycamore, Ill.) played in their first ever collegiate round on the golf course. Hienbuecher was able to finish seventh for individual placing with a 144. The freshman had a pair of bogies after the turn for her top holes on the round. With the two bogies, Hienbuecher was able to have a more efficient second half. George finished her first round in the NCAA ranks with a 155 score.

The Blue Angels will return to the course next Fri. Sept 7 when they host Wisconsin Lutheran College for the home opener. The first swings for the two-team event is set for 1:00 pm at Currie Park Golf Course in Wauwatosa, Wis. News, scores and updates will be available at MtMaryAthletics.com.
