WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The Mount Mary University golf team hosted their final home event of the fall season today at Currie Park Golf Course. The visiting Alverno Inferno took first in team scoring 442 over MMU's 530 on the day. Mackenzie Mathies of the Inferno took first place in individual scoring with a 102.

Leading the round for the Blue Angels was freshman Taylor Hienbuecher (Sycamore, Ill.) who finished the day with her best collegiate score of her young career by 17 strokes. This time, the newcomer found a way to chip away at her average score by finishing with a pair of bogies on two separate par-3 holes on her way to a 120. The consistent improvement yielded the highest placing for the freshman as well finishing fourth in individual play.

Finishing the day with another career day, Kirsten George (So./Fairborn, Ohio) posted a 132 on her 18-hole round. The sophomore stood out in the back nine when she finished with a bogey on a 104-yard par-3 hole. The strong finish helped George cut two strokes off her back nine as well.

In her first collegiate round of golf Hayley Smalley (Jr./Columbus, Ohio) finished in seventh place in individual scoring. The junior benefited from the turn with a bogey on a challenging 303-yard par-4 hole. Smalley was also able to take off five strokes in her back nine on her way to a total round score of 137.

Kaylie Cook (So./Fairborn, Ohio) followed the trend set by her teammates and was able to shot a more effective back nine at Currie Park Golf Course. The sophomore finished with a 73 on the front, then stabilized for a 68 on the back nine.

The Blue Angels will head to New Berlin Hills Golf Course tomorrow for a three-team event hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College. First swings are scheduled for 1:30 pm. Results and recaps will be available at MtMaryAthletics.com following the round.
