2019 Mount Mary University Golf Preview

2019 Mount Mary University Golf Preview

MILWAUKEE – The golf season is here, and the NCAA invites are ready to begin. The Mount Mary University golf team has seen a few changes in the recent offseason, and they are excited for the future has in store for the program.

One of the biggest changes to the program this offseason was hiring Perry Clark as head golf coach at Mount Mary University. The longtime coach has shown a strong record of successful programs throughout his career. With his laundry list of accolades from coaching softball for over two decades, coach Clark is focused on establishing the golf program.

"I want to establish a solid schedule," said new coach Perry Clark. "In the past we have done a lot of dual or triangulars. This year we are in three invites, and next year I hope to increase that to five."

While the schedule evolves, coach Clark luckily returns a few veterans that he has had the pleasure of coaching on the softball field. In every meet she played in during the 2018 portion of the schedule, Haley Jacquez (Sr./Oakley, Calif.) led the Blue Angels with lowest scorecard on her team. Jaquez has been a consistent member of the Blue Angels for the past two seasons, and in 2018-19 she lead her squad with the lowest average score at 124.5.

Leading the Blue Angels in their sole dual match in the spring of 2019, Taylor Hienbuecher (So./Sycamore, Ill.) also returns to the Blue Angels this season hoping to continue her progress throughout the season. Averaging 131.6 strokes per round, Hienbuecher reduced her 18-hole score in every event last season. That culminated in May of 2019, when Hienbuecher finished second overall in the dual event against Wisconsin Lutheran finishing with a score of 118.

"Unity, having the kids that are currently playing want to play together as a team. Then are new recruits, same thing, bring them into a family like atmosphere like we did in softball."

MMU also returns hard hitting Hayley Smalley (Columbus, Ohio) and the continually improving Melissa Golo (So./Boise, Idaho). In addition, the Blue Angels add a veteran to the links, Jaclyn Hofstetter (Sr./Darien, Ill.).

The Blue Angels also look to add a myriad of new events this season. MMU will open the season up today at the Titan Fall Classic Invite at the Oshkosh Country Club. Along with a pair of duals against longtime rival Alverno, the Blue Angels will also head to Marian and UW-Whitewater for the full invite experience. (Full Schedule)
