Lincoln, Ill. – The Mount Mary University Blue Angels beat the Lincoln Christian University Red Lions 3-0.
It has been a week since the Blue Angels have played a game, and they came out firing on all cylinders against the Red Lions. For the first time this year the Association of Division III Independents leader in saves, Becky Onan (Fr./Grafton, Wis.), received her first shutout of the season.
The Blue Angels weren't just dominant on defense, Ashley Lehnen (Fr./Sussex, Wis.) got the offense going early in this one. Lehnen would score two first half goals to put MMU ahead 2-0 at the 45 minute mark. Assists coming off the feet of Emily Ristow (Jr./Sheboygan, Wis.) and Marissa Rechlicz (Fr./West Allis, Wis.). Ristow tacked on to the lead in the 79th minute of play off a header from Ashley Lehnen to make the game 3-0.
After the score from Ristow, the Blue Angels would bide their time and finish up a defensive gem for their second win of the year.
The Blue Angels are now 2-4 on the season, and will look to improve when they head to Berrien Springs, Mich. to play Andrews University with the game Sept. 23 starting at 4:30 pm.
