Blue Angels And Cardinals Go To The Limit

BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. – The Mount Mary University soccer team tied Andrews University 2-2 this evening.

It was a tale of two halves, and an overtime to end act three with an unwanted curtain. The Blue Angels came out firing on all cylinders in the first half both offensively and defensively against the Cardinals. The first half went quickly in favor of MMU, Emily Ristow (Jr./Sheboygan, Wis.) hit the first goal in the 18th minute of play from 20 yards out, the assist came from Marissa Rechlicz (Fr./West Allis, Wis.). The duo repeated themselves ten minutes later when Rechlicz riffled a pass between defenders to set up Ristow with another goal to make it 2-0.

Solid defensive efforts allowed the Cardinals to only take eight shots in the first half, and Becky Onan (Fr./Grafton, Wis.) was up to task as well as she shut them down and got six saves in the half.

The second half momentum swung in favor of the Cardinals, they would hammer away with 13 shots, and two snuck by Onan to tie it up in the 75th minute 2-2. Ristow got two more good shots on goal in the remaining 15 minutes, one of which smacked off the crossbar before the end of regulation where it was all tied up 2-2.

The Blue Angels kept it up until the 110th minute when the final whistle blew and the game ended in a tie. Every MMU player registered a full 110 minutes in the game.

Onan ended the game with 17 saves and now has 105 saves on the season. Onan was also named the Blue Angels Spotlight Player on Monday for her play at goal this year.

The next game for Mount Mary University is Saturday in Hancock, Mich. against Finlandia University. Kickoff on Sept. 27 is at 10:00 am on the Finlandia University Campus.
