Injuries Derail Blue Angels Again

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Injuries are still an issue for the Blue Angels, and the Concordia University Chicago managed to beat Mount Mary University 7-0 today at Concordia Stadium. The Cougars are now 7-4 after sticking MMU (2-6-1) with their second loss in a row.

Whether it was just the straight overwhelming offensive attack, or the adjusting Blue Angels defense, the Cougars left it all on the field after shooting 25 shots on goal in this one. Becky Onan (Fr./Grafton, Wis.) did the best job she could, before giving up two goals and reaggravating an existent injury. Marissa Rechlicz (Fr./West Allis, Wis.) had to come and fill in at goalie 16 minutes into the game to record 14 saves in 19 attempts. It was just an outright assault on the Blue Angels net, one that the defense struggled to deter in any affect.

The series since 2009, is 4-0 CUC after today's match. In the previous matchup between schools, MMU was held shotless throughout the 90 minutes, today Emily Ristow (Jr./Sheboygan, Wis.) was able to get only one shot on goal. Again, the Cougars were able to out shoot MMU convincingly, and that seems to be the biggest trend in Blue Angels losses this season.

It has been an issue reshuffling the roster for MMU. The last game Onan missed, the Blue Angels had troubles not having Rechlicz on the backend of the pitch disrupting opponents' offensive flow. It takes away the long ball off of Onan's punts and prevents Rechlicz from leading Ristow or Ashley Lehnen (Fr./Sussex, Wis.) on the offensive attack.

Coach Joe Shokatz was disappointed with some of the metaphysical elements of the game, simply put, "… we lacked focus tonight."

Next in line for the Blue Angels is crosstown rival Alverno College. The game against the Inferno is on Saturday Oct. 4th at 12:00 pm in Milwaukee, Wis. on the Alverno Soccer Field.
