Healthy And Able; Blue Angels win Big

MILWAUKEE – A total flip-flop in performance since the last time Mount Mary University and Finlandia University matched up on the soccer pitch. Today the Blue Angels won 4-0 over the Lions (3-10) at Mount Mary Field.

Just over two weeks have passed since these two teams played each other. This time the Blue Angels (3-7-2) were healthy, and had some subs to alleviate the burden of playing the whole 90 minutes, and the difference showed.

With the fresh legs on the field, the Blue Angels started to take control of the ball and the game immediately. Chucking 16 shots in the first half, and only allowing the opposition to get off four, the Blue Angels were dead-set at turning the tables from the last 5-0 loss to Finlandia.

An unbelievable performance by Emily Ristow (Jr./Sheboygan, Wis.) saw four goals in the first half. Ristow had a lot of open opportunities since the Blue Angels defense denied play after play to get the offense started. Two of the four goals scored by Ristow were courtesy of Marissa Rechlicz (Fr./West Allis, Wis.) who now leads the team in assists.

It was a total reversal from game one of the season series between the two teams. Last game the Lions controlled much of the game with 47 shots, and 26 of those shots were on goal. Put that up to the Blue Angels three shots on goal, and one understands how different the two games were.

Today's Lions team put up just six shots on goal, three shots against Becky Onan (Fr./Grafton, Wis.), and the three against Rechlicz, all denied by the MMU's respective goal keeper. While the offense for the Blue Angels got 26 shots off in the game, 13 were on goal. A total reversal from the previous contest, it is astonishing that these were the same teams that mean just a few weeks ago.

Another road game for the Blue Angels. MMU will be heading to Watertown, Wis. to match up against the Maranatha Baptist University Sabercats (4-7-1). The match is set for Thursday Oct. 16th with kickoff at 3:30 pm.
