Stellings AD3I Gets First AD3I Award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Association of Division III Independents announced this morning that Kaeli Stellings (Fr./Beloit, Wis.) of Mount Mary University Soccer is the next AD3I Player of the Week. Stellings wins the award after a couple of big games for her team in the week of Sept. 5th-11th, 2016.

Stellings first big game of the week was against the Eureka Red Devils. In a matter of five minutes, Stellings fired two shots in the net to give MMU a comfortable 3-0 lead. The offensive showcase led to the Blue Angels first win of the 2016 season and the first collegiate two goal game for Stellings.

The conclusion of play this week saw Stellings start the offense with a good setup pass to Becky Onan (Jr./Grafton, Wis.) who knocked in the first goal of the game against Iowa Wesleyan. Moments after the assist, Stellings broke away from the defense and fired another net-seeking shot to give MMU a 2-0 lead on their way to win number two on the season.

"I am extremely excited for Kaeli. It is a reflection of her work in training from the beginning of the season." Mount Mary Head Soccer Coach Jon Gulrajani added, "She has a good sense around the goal, she strikes a ball well with both feet, and she is getting more confident '1v1' each game."

"The game against Eureka was the point when she realized she could be more aggressive on the attack, we challenged her to be more productive in the final third and she responded. This is a great achievement for Kaeli and the rest of her teammates."

Stellings is now tied for second in the AD3I with four goals, and also second in the association for total points (11).

MMU Soccer will prepare for their next game this Fri. Sept. 16 against MacMurray (1-1). Live stats will be available for the game at mtmaryathetlics.com.
