Muskies Stop Blue Angels

Muskies Stop Blue Angels

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – In their fourth contest of the season, the Mount Mary University soccer team lost to host Lakeland University 5-0. Now 3-0 at the Lakeland University Soccer Field this season, the Muskies move to 3-3 overall while MMU is sitting at 1-3 on the 2017 season.

In the first half, the Blue Angels continued to apply pressure in the opposition's territory, but the Muskies attack was unrelenting as they hammered 14 team shots, nine of those were within reach of the goalkeeper. That continuous pressure in the box led to three first half goals for Lakeland and a 3-0 lead going into the locker rooms at halftime.

MMU found two openings on offense in the first half with one shot officially taken on goal.

Lakeland delivered again in the second frame with eleven more team shots. The Blue Angels answered with two of their own, both of which were on goal. The Muskies, however, found the back of the net two more times in the final 45 minutes which stretched things out to the final score of 5-0.

"Tough result tonight," said Mount Mary University Head Soccer Coach Jon Gulrajani. "I give Lakeland credit, they have improved and their field is full size they did a good job spreading us out, made it difficult to defend."

Muskie Grace Daehling grabbed the win for her team in goal and moves to 2-3 on the season. Hannah Rose (So./Jeromesville, Ohio) saved nine of her 14 opportunities, and is now 1-3 in 2017.

"I think we had a strong effort but we really need to concentrate on decision making," added coach Gulrajani. "We just need to stay positive and learn from our mistakes. Everyone needs to dig in and execute our style."

Following tonight's contest, the Blue Angels will prepare for their next opponent Finlandia University. The Lions are 0-4 on the season as the get ready for their home opener. Live stats will be made available for the game; links can be found at mtmaryathletics.com.
