Regents Take Win

LOVES PARK, Ill. – Today at the Sportscore Two Field, the Mount Mary University soccer team lost to host Rockford University 1-0. The Blue Angels (6-7-1) attacked the goal consistently and turned the defense away routinely, but a late goal for the Regents (6-11) was the difference in the contest.

The Blue Angels found their way into enemy territory multiple times in the first half. While the teams trade possessions and shots, the Regents were able to get off five team shots in the first 45 minutes to the Blue Angels seven.

Hannah Rose (So./Jeromesville, Ohio) was able to save three of those attacks in the first half while her counterpart stopped five.

Coming up short on multiple chances, two shots from forward Allison Klotz (So./Port Washington, Wis.) just missed the net. With one shot off the post, and one shot stopped by the goal keeper, MMU was teetering on taking the early lead.

In the second half MMU continued to pressure the ball and push into enemy territory, but the defense from the Regents did not allow the Blue Angels to get off an official shot in the final 45 minutes.

While mainly a midfield battle, the Regents found their opportunity with 57:32 on the clock. A long header found its way through a congested goal box and then the back of the net. Lexie Collins was credited with the goal on the shot.

Rose was credited with the loss in goal, she is now 6-7-1. The sophomore goalkeeper finished with six saves on the day.

"Tough result today," said Mount Mary Head Soccer Coach Jon Gulrajani. "We created enough chances to get a result, but credit Rockford they out worked us most of the match."

"We just didn't close space quick enough and teams will make you pay when you give them time and space." Coach Gulrajani went on, "…we need to regroup and learn from today, and look to finish strong starting this Sunday."

Following today's contest, the Blue Angels will prepare for their final home game Sun. Oct. 22. The Blue Angels will honor seniors Becky Onan (Grafton, Wis.) and Lucy Vue (Milwaukee, Wis.) in their final home game at Mount Mary Field.
