Crown Crashes With Win

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn – The Mount Mary University soccer team lost their season finale today at the KleinBank Stadium. Host Crown College (1-17) defeated the Blue Angels (7-8-1) with a pair of goals in each half to make the final score 4-0.

In the season's final game, the Blue Angels battled like they have all season. Despite the lopsided score, MMU matched their opponent shot for shot with 17 shots on the day. The opposition slightly edged out the Blue Angels in shots-on-goal with 11 to MMU's 10.

Lottie Ellis found the first goal for the Storm just six minutes into the game. The Blue Angels continued to apply pressure of their own in the first half, but Crown's Anna Kraight put the game out of reach with a goal at the 28-minute mark.

Blue Angel Hannah Rose (So./Jeromesville, Ohio) saved a total of seven shots on goal throughout the game, but Crown found the net two more times in the second half to push things out to 4-0.

Karina Salgado (Jr./Chicago, Ill.) fired eight of the Blue Angels 17 shots, four of which were on goal. Teammate Allison Klotz (So./Port Washington, Wis.) also attacked with four shots on goal of her own.

"It was a tough result today," said Mount Mary Head Soccer Coach Jon Gulrajani.  "I felt like we lacked intensity in the first half and crown got off to a good start…"

"We settled in and played better to close the half," added coach Gulrajani. "Second half we talked about pressuring better and making sure to win balls in the middle I was pleased with our effort we were much better on the attack, we just struggled to finish.

"Our three seniors played their last match and we appreciate what they have meant to our program. We will miss them all, but I am happy about the effort and leadership. It was another great season, would have liked to see us finish with a win, but we have a great deal to be proud of."

The Blue Angels close out their season with one of their most successful seasons in program history, and with the continued and steady success from the program, many fans are excited for what is to come for Blue Angels Soccer. Stay tuned to mtmaryathletics.com for updates and info.
