Sensational Senior Selected For Honor

MILWAUKEE – For the second time in two weeks the Mount Mary University soccer team has earned a conference honor. This time, Karina Salgado (Sr./Chicago, Ill.) has been named this week's American Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Soccer Player of the Week.

The senior set the bar for her team last Friday evening in Eureka, Ill. when the Blue Angels took on the Eureka College Red Devils. In the Revelations themed contest, the power of the Blue Angels persevered on the right foot of Karina Salgado.

After 34 minutes of a 0-0 tie, Salgado was finally able to find an opening in the opponent's defense and drilled the first goal of the season for the Blue Angels. That one-goal lead lasted only ten minutes until the senior found yet another gap and smashed her second goal of the day making things 2-0 right before halftime.

After her teammates added two more goals in the second half, the Red Devils added their first goal at the 80-minute mark. Salgado instantly snubbed the Red Devil rally with her third goal of the day at the 83-minute mark.

That hat-trick was the first Salgado has had since her freshman season against Robert Morris University Springfield.

Salgado and her Blue Angels return to action on Wednesday to take on Iowa Wesleyan. Live stats and video of the contest will be made available at MtMaryAthletics.com.
