Tigers Win

WYOMING, Mich. – Today at Velting Field, the host Grace Christian Tigers defeated the Mount Mary University soccer team by a final score of 10-0. The Blue Angels are now 1-11 and the Tigers move to 8-6 after their third win straight.

The Blue Angels deterred the first handful of shots by the opposition. For the first 18 minutes the Blue Angels were able to keep GCU off the scoreboard. At the 18-minutes mark, the Tigers began a surge of offense when Maddie Brown kicked in the first goal of the game.

Less than a minute later, the Tigers continued their attack on offense. This time Maddie Brown found teammate Sue Pilieci open in MMU territory and Pilieci bent a shot into the net to push the score to 2-0.

Three minutes later, the Tigers continued to pressure the offense of the Blue Angels. This time Pilieci found teammate Anna-Lee Oickle for GCU's third goal. Two minutes later, the Tigers added their fourth goal on a penalty kick. The 4-0 score would hold to halftime.

In the second half, the NCAA DIII women's soccer leader in saves, Hannah Rose (Sr./Jeromesville, Ohio) added seven saves to her season totals. The MMU defense resisted, but the Tigers continued to attack all throughout the second half. GCU took 17 shots in total in the final 45 minutes of play, with six of those shots scoring. Opposing goalkeeper Regan Befus started the second half in the field and scored two of those goals.

Rose added a total nine saves and now leads the ACAA with 199 total saves on the year.

After tonight's contest, the Blue Angels will return to the field Mon. Oct. 7 against Lakeland. The Monday night contest against the Muskies is scheduled for 7:00 pm. Check back to MtMaryAthletics.com. For news, scores and updates.
