Soccer Drops Pair to Top NCCAA Squads

WYOMING, Mich. & LANSING, Mich. – The Mount Mary University soccer team fell to a pair of nationally-ranked National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association squads in southwestern Michigan over the weekend. Saturday, MMU dropped a 9-0 decision to Grace Christian University before falling to Great Lakes Christian on Saturday, 8-0.

Mount Mary's season mark fell to 0-10 overall, while GCU improved to 8-5 and GLCC upped its season record to 9-1.

GRACE CHRISTIAN 9, MMU 0

Ranked No. 2 in the October 5 NCCAA Division II poll, Grace Christian took control early with seven first-half goals en route to a 9-0 rout at GCU's Velting Field in Wyoming, Mich., Saturday.

Freshmen Mary Parlier (Milwaukee, Wis./Dominican) and Cate Mitchell (Mazomanie, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) combined to take three shots on goal, but possession was in the hands of the hosts for much of the contest.

Freshman Brianna Brown (San Diego, Calif./Herbert Hoover) recorded a whopping 20 saves for the Blue Angels, one off her season and career high.

GREAT LAKES CHRISTIAN 8, MMU 0

Sunday morning brought about another tough opponent in neighbor Great Lakes Christian. The Crusaders, ranked No. 1 in the latest NCCAA Division II poll, proved too much for the Blue Angels in an 8-0 final from GLCC's Henderson Field in Lansing, Mich.

Down just 3-0 at the half, Great Lakes Christian wore down the MMU defense late, including putting away a late goal in the 90th minute to cap off a physical game that saw three combined yellows.

Offensive struggles aside, Brown put forth another standout effort in goal, recording 13 saves against a barrage of 33 Crusader shots.

Mount Mary will stay on the road this week for a pair of matchups next week, traveling to Lincoln Christian University for a 3 p.m. matchup Thursday.
