Blackburn knocks off Mount Mary in Saturday Match

MILWAUKEE, WI – Taking the home pitch for the second time in 3 days, the Mount Mary soccer team hoped to tally their first win of the season. The Blackburn College Beavers had other plans however, and they defeated the Blue Angel side by a score of 6-0.

The story of the match was Blackburn's Sophia King.  King found the back of the net four times in what was the season opener for the Beavers.  The Blue Angel defense stood as strong as possible through the first half, as Mount Mary trailed by only 2 goals at Halftime.

Mount Mary (0-2) showed greater offensive punch in their second contest of the season, putting 11 shots on goal, but Blackburn's four second half scores put the contest out of reach and the Beavers held on for a 6-0 victory.

Young players again stood out for Mount Mary, 1st year goalkeeper Dylan Christensen recorded double digit saves for a second straight game.  Freshmen Sam Reyes was a consistent presence in front of the Blackburn net, as she tallied five shots on goal for MMU.

The Mount Mary soccer team will be back in action on Tuesday, September 6th, facing Milwaukee rival Wisconsin Lutheran College.  As announced earlier in the week, the venue has been changed from Wisconsin Lutheran to Mount Mary.  The match will begin at 4 pm and live coverage will be available on www.mtmaryathletics.com
