Reyes nets two goals as Mount Mary drops one goal result to Defiance

Defiance, OH- Mount Mary came into Sunday's match against Defiance College looking for an offensive spark. The Blue Angels found it in Sam Reyes. The MMU freshman scored her first two career goals and the first of the season for Mount Mary. It was not quite enough for the Blue Angels to garner their first positive result however, as they fell to Defiance by a final score of 3-2.

The match was scoreless for the first 16 minutes until Paige Drusback opened up the scoring with a goal for Defiance.  The 1-0 lead for the Yellow Jackets would carry into intermission.

Mount Mary found an equalizer in the match and their first goal of the season less than 2 minutes into the second half.  Sam Reyes broke through with a goal for MMU and the match was tied at one.  Sarah O'Shea of Defiance would score the next two goals of the match, both between the 50th and 60th minute to give Defiance a 3-1 lead.

Mount Mary would not give in however, Reyes would score again in the 75th minute (assisted by Mary Parlier) to bring MMU within a goal at 3-2.  Mount Mary pushed the pace looking for the game tieing goal but Defiance held up and on held on.  Defeating the Blue Angels by a final of 3-2.

As has been the case all season, Dylan Christensen fended off many shots in net during the match.  The Yellow Jackets had 26 shots overall and Christensen piled up 11 saves for the match.

The Blue Angels (0-7-1) will head back to Wisconsin for their next road contest.  On Thursday, September 29th, Mount Mary will look to carry some of their positive momentum into Watertown, Wisconsin, when they take on the Sabercats of Maranatha Baptist University.  All coverage of MMU soccer can be found on www.mtmaryathletics.com
