Soccer drops match at Maranatha

Watertown, WI- The Sabercats of Maranatha Baptist University used two first half goals to shoot ahead of the Mount Mary soccer team on Thursday.  The Blue Angels were unable to erase the deficit, and fell to Maranatha by a final score of 5-1.

The Blue Angels hoped to continue their offensive improvement Thursday in Watertown.  Coming off their first two goals of the season (both by Sam Reyes) Sunday at Defiance, MMU was unable to generate many scoring chances until the second half.

Reyes extended her goal scoring streak to two games, as she scored the lone MMU goal in the second half, her third of the season.

Angie Gomez did a fine job in net, subbing for the injured Dylan Christensen.  She recorded 9 saves but it was not enough to propel the Blue Angels to their first victory of the season.

Offensively for MMU, Reyes and Meah Mora put pressure on the Maranatha goal on multiple occasions.  However, the late goal by Reyes was the only tally on the day for the Blue Angels.

Mount Mary (0-8-1) will take on Andrews University in their next two matches.  The first will be played at MMU on Sunday, October 2nd, scheduled for a 1 pm start.
