Blue Angels battle Maranatha to draw

Milwaukee, WI-  Mount Mary and Maranatha Baptist played to a 2-2 draw on the soccer field Thursday.  The Sabercats had defeated the Blue Angels earlier in the season, MMU nearly flipped the result in one of their best performances of the season.  The young Blue Angel side showed offensive explosiveness and the defense held up under a barrage of Sabercat shots to preserve the draw in the second half.

Mount Mary struck twice in the first half.  Sam Reyes continued her goal scoring ways, as she scored her 4th goal of the season, off of an assist by Lexi Behringer in the match's 19th minute.  The Blue Angels took their largest lead of the season at 2-0, when Ashton Longazel's run and shot found the back of the net near the end of the first half.

In what was maybe the pivotal play of the match, Maranatha's Megan Prigge scored just before the expiration of the half.  So instead of a 2-goal deficit, the Sabercats trailed by only one at half.

The second half began and MBU found the equalizer less than two minutes in, again from Prigge.  That would conclude the scoring on the day.

Both teams pressured the other in what was largely an even last 40 minutes.  MMU goalkeeper, Dylan Christensen again played a fine game with 20 saves.  Without question her most crucial was a leaping save on a long Maranatha blast, that was destined for the back of the net with under 10 minutes to play.

Mount Mary (0-11-3) continues to improve throughout the season, a great sign for the young side.  MMU has four matches remaining on the 2022 campaign, three of which will be at home.  Prior to those home matches, MMU will head to Lawrence University for their final road match.  The match will be Sunday, October 23rd, scheduled for a 1:30 pm start.
