Blue Angels Knock Off Alverno in Home Opener

Milwaukee,WI – Coming off of a weekend in which the 2023 Mount Mary soccer team showed great promise and potential in their season debut, the Blue Angels hosted local rival Alverno College in their first home match of the season.

The Blue Angels took a first half lead, never surrendered it, and secured to the program's first win since 2019.   It was a special day for the program, snapping the winless streak and claiming the win over Alverno by a score of 3-1.

Amanda Antonio and Sam Reyes both struck with goals in the first half, staking the Blue Angels to a 2-0 advantage at half time.  In half number two each team scored once.  With Alverno trailing 2-1 and pressuring for an equalizer, Brianna Brown made a huge save which Sam Reyes followed up with her 3rd goal on the young season.  Reyes's goal would put MMU up 3-1 which would be the final score.

Reyes is off to a red hot start this season, with three goals in three games.  Dylan Christensen and Brianna Brown combined for 10 saves in net, none bigger than Brown's in the second half with MMU holding a one goal lead.  Mount Mary outshot Alverno by a 14-11 total for the match.

Coming off of the victory, Mount Mary will face another Milwaukee foe in their next game.  The Blue Angels (1-2) will make the short trip to Wisconsin Lutheran College.  MMU will take on the Warriors on Sunday, September 10th at 1 pm.  All live coverage is available on www.mtmaryathletics.com
