Vikings Sweep Mount Mary

APPLETON, Wis. – The Blue Angels volleyball team had a tough night Tuesday at Lawrence and were overpowered by the host Vikings 25-10, 25-23, 25-12.

After experiencing an unconventional warm-up which involved walking across campus to the correct gymnasium, the Blue Angels struggled to get much going against a very powerful Lawrence squad. Mount Mary threatened late in the second set, surging from a 19-15 deficit to tie the set at 22 after a kill by junior outside Stephanie Hardwick (West Allis, Wis.). However, two straight errors and a Lawrence kill put the set away, 25-23.

Junior outside Stephanie Hardwick (West Allis, Wis.) recorded a team-high nine kills, but only freshman right side Alexis Hafemeister hit positive on the night, tallying three kills on 12 attempts. As a team, Mount Mary recorded just 18 kills to 23 errors, eight of which coming from a prolific Viking block.

The Blue Angels will continue its busy final weeks of play this weekend, traveling to downtown Chicago for a triangular at Moody Bible Institute. MMC will open play against Kuyper College before taking on the host Archers in the triangular finale.
