Mount Mary Drops Home Match to Raiders

MILWAUKEE – Despite a dominating first set victory, Mount Mary couldn't pull off the home victory over Milwaukee School of Engineering, falling 25-19, 17-25, 16-25, 14-25 Tuesday night. The loss drops the Blue Angels to 12-13 overall with just two matches remaining on the season.

The Blue Angels' game plan was executed perfectly in the first set as MSOE struggled with consistency across both sides of the ball. Though after securing a win, the Raiders established its block and picked up its defensive intensity, holding Mount Mary to just nine kills and forcing nine errors. Offensively, MSOE continued its ascent up the hitting percentage scale, capping off a 10-kill, 2-error, .259-hitting percentage fourth set to seal the match victory.

Junior outside Stephanie Hardwick (West Allis, Wis.), as she has for much of the season, led the way with 17 kills and 24 digs on the night. Sophomore outside Beth Baxter (Germantown, Wis.) added 10 kills and 17 digs, while sophomore middle Stephanie Gratz (Sussex, Wis.) and freshman right side Alexis Hafemeister (Milwaukee, Wis.) added 17 and 10 digs, respectively. Senior setter Chelsie Beeler (Jackson, Wis.) notched 26 assists.

The Blue Angels will travel to Milwaukee's north side to take on NAIA foe Cardinal Stritch University Thursday at 7 pm before concluding their season at home Saturday against Indiana University-Northwest.
