Blue Angels' upset bid falls short against Moody

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary volleyball team has worked hard to improve all season long. Thursday night, the Blue Angels played their best ball of the season but fell to visiting Moody Bible Institute 25-20, 25-18, 25-18.

While the final set scores handed the Archers a convincing sweep, the match was actually very closely played. Mount Mary jumped out to early leads in all three sets—6-1, 5-1 and 3-1 respectively—but Moody was able to work back into the game with efficient hitting.

For the match, Moody Bible recorded a .207 hitting clip with 42 kills and just 19 errors. The Blue Angels scored 22 kills and 20 errors in exactly 100 swings, working out to a .020 percentage.

Half of MMU's kills came from junior Sarah Wishau (Oak Creek, Wis.), who posted her first double-double of the season with 11 kills and a match-high 17 digs. She also was stellar from the service line, scoring five services aces—also a match-high.

Freshman Phoenix Hulsey (Wauwatosa, Wis.) recorded her fourth double-digit assist match as well with 10 and also added five digs in Mount Mary's effort.

MMU will hope to carry the momentum gained in Thursday's matchup into Saturday, as they host the three-team Blue Angel Invitational. Mount Mary will kick off a busy day against Emmaus Bible College in a 1:00 p.m. start. The Eagles will take in Grace Bible College in a 3:00 p.m. matchup, before Mount Mary takes on the Tigers in the tournament finale.

The Invite will simultaneously occur during the MMU Athletics Open House, slated for 2:00 p.m., in which prospective Blue Angel student-athletes are invited to get a showcase of what Mount Mary has to offer.

Saturday's events will conclude with the inaugural Mount Mary Pizza Wars, in which a handful of local pizzerias will show what they have to offer. The competition is open to the public, and the highest vote-getter will receive the distinguished honor as having the best pizza in Milwaukee.
