Volleyball Drops Opener in Five

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Mount Mary University came up just short in a five set match against host Emmaus Bible College.

Sarah Wishau (Sr./Oak Creek, Wis.) led the offensive attack for the Blue Angels with a jaw dropping eight aces. Wishau also tallied eight kills as the game stretched out into the fifth set.

The young team lost the first set 25-15 and completely turned the tables in the second set winning 25-16.  Coach Kelsey Peterson, in her third season as head coach, commented on her team's turnaround, "We are such a young team, nearly all freshmen and sophomores, so I knew they'd need to work through some nerves at first."

Helping on the offensive side of the court was Taylor Baumgart (So./Burlington, Wis.) with four kills.

After falling 25-17 in the third set, the resilience of the Blue Angels came through again as they beat Emmaus 25-7 in the fourth. Coach Peterson was proud of the aggressiveness throughout the battle.

"They had so much fire and passion... It gave me chills!"

The final set would be the separator, as the Eagles took the victory 15-11. "Even though we lost tonight, I was so excited by how we performed," Peterson said.
