Late Effort From Blue Angels Not Enough To Overcome Rockford

Rockford, Ill. – The Blue Angels were defeated in a (0-3) match against Rockford University at Rock Valley College's arena.

The Regents (3-2) jumped out in front by getting their offense going early; Rockford would grab the first set 25-16 and not give up the lead after that. Mount Mary University (0-2) couldn't catch up in the second set as Rockford kept up the offensive assault 25-14.

The Blue Angels would come fighting back in the third and start showing signs of their experience coming together, but couldn't sustain long enough to hold off the Regents. Rockford would complete the match sweep with a 20-25 3 set.

Taylor Baumgart (So./Burlington, Wis.) led the Blue Angels' offensive efforts with five kills and helped out with one solo block. Andrea Roell (So./Kingsford, Mich.) took care of business on the serve line as she led the team with three serve aces, and cleaned up with 11 digs. Payton Hintz (Fr./Almond, Wis.) played operator as she led the Blue Angels with  12 assists, and put up three kills as well.

The Regent's offense was lead by Katelyn Hasken (Sr./Lanark, Ill.) with 14 kills and five serve aces. Erin Pederson (Sr./Oregon, Ill.) notched eight kills and would lead Rockford with 13 digs. Rockford was given an incredible 29 assist effort from Taylor Rossi (So./ Ingleside, Ill.), along with 6 kills.

The Blue Angels will head to Ashland, Wis. this weekend for the Northland College Tournament. Mount Mary University will face Concordia University Chicago Sept. 5 at 6 pm, then host Northland College at 8 pm. They will continue the tournament against Maranatha Baptist University Sept. 6 at 12 pm, and then will get a rematch against Rockford University at 6 pm.
