Blue Angels Late Spark Not Enough to Top Foresters

Blue Angels Late Spark Not Enough to Top Foresters

MILWAUKEE – Mount Mary University was defeated by the Lake Forest College volleyball team 3-0 at the Bloechl Center.

The last time Mount Mary University played the Foresters was the 2013 season, when Lake Forest won in a 3-0 sweep as Brittany Avonts (So./McHenry, Ill.) drilled 19 kills in the match. During the home opener for the Blue Angels, MMU couldn't get things rolling early enough to hang with the Foresters. The first match went heavy towards Foresters as they came out booming. Torie Pasiewicz (Sr./Beach Park, Ill.) got things going right from the first whistle, the setter would fire up four serve aces, and coordinate 20 assists for the Foresters during the match.  The first set would finish 25-3 for Lake Forest College.

After the first set laid the tone for the match, the second went along pretty similarly to the first set. Avonts was again a killing machine, with 13 kills on the night and only two errors. Mount Mary University couldn't get in rhythm during the second set, as they would drop it 25-6.

It wasn't until the third set until the Blue Angels could get their offense and defense going. Sarah Wishau (Sr./Oak Creek, Wis.) led her team as not only the captain, but led by example as well as she swept up the floor with a team leading seven digs. As the Blue Angels started to fight back, Andrea Roell (So./Kingsford, Mich.) kept things going with three kills to lead MMU. The Blue Angels would take Lake Forest to the limit in the third set, but the Foresters would hold on for the win and the sweep, with a final set score of 25-22.

After tonight, the Blue Angels will get ready to co-host the Inferno-Angels Classic. The Bloechl Center will be one of two locations for the classic; the supplementary games will be played simultaneously at the Reiman Gymnasium on Alverno's campus. The Bloechl Center will start their portion of the tourney Sept. 19 starting at 2:00 pm. Mount Mary University will face off against Kuyper College to begin the classic, and then finish off the day at 6:45 pm against North Park University.
