Blue Angels To Co-host Inferno-Angels Classic

Blue Angels To Co-host Inferno-Angels Classic

Mount Mary University will be opening its doors this weekend to co-host an eight team classic. The Bloechl Center will be one of two sites for the tournament, the other being the Reiman Gymnasium on Alverno's Campus.

The first game of the classic will pit the Blue Angels against the Kuyper College Cougars starting at 2:00 pm on Sept. 19. When these two teams met previously, it was Oct. 20, 2012 and the Navy Halos took the first two sets, but lost the last three in very close sets. The final match score of 3-2 prevented MMU from finishing .500 on the year.

This season, the Blue Angels are 0-8 thus far, but will see how they match up against the 2-2 Cougars. So far, there are no common opponents on the season between MMU and KC.

Two neutral site games will be hosted at the Bloechl Center. Game two will have Illinois Tech against North Park University starting at 3:45 pm. Illinois Tech will then have to turn around and quickly match up against Kuyper College at 5:15 pm.

MMU will then finish off the evening playing North Park University (3-11). The only common opponent between the Blue Angels and Vikings is Concordia University Chicago, NPU defeated CUC in 3-2 match while MMU lost to CUC 3-0. North Park University is led by setter Darby Switzer (Fr./Phoenix, Ariz.) who has 298 assists on the season, and Hayley Brake (Jr./Elgin, Ill.) who leads her team with 97 kills.

Sept. 20 will feature four more games at the Bloechl Center. The first match on Sept.20 at 10:00 am will be between co-host MMU and the visiting Silver Lake Lakers. The Lakers are now 4-3 on the year, and will have their first trip to the Bloechl Center at the Inferno-Angels Classic.

Two more neutral games will be played; the first match will be at 11:45 on Sept. 20 with Illinois Tech versus Northland International University. The second match will have Illinois Tech finish off their fourth match against Silver Lake starting at 1:15 pm.

The finale match of the two day affair will be Mount Mary University against Northland International University starting at 2:45 pm. NIU played MMU last season, both matches went in favor of Pioneers 3-0.

Sarah Wishau (Sr./Oak Creek, Wis.) leads the team with 47 kills on the season. Setter Payton Hintz (Fr./Almond, Wis.) leads the Navy Halos with 79 assists. The young team is still trying to find their rhythm, but it seems that MMU is on the right track. While they lost 3-0 against Lake Forest College, the last set was a very competitive 25-22 back and forth that showed a lot of promise, but would eventually go to the Foresters.

After this weekend, Mount Mary University will head to Indiana University Northwest to square off against the Red Hawks on Sept. 23 starting at 7:00 pm.
