Blue Angels Host Day One Of Classic

MILWAUKEE – In the first ever Inferno-Angels Classic, Mount Mary University lost in both matches against Kuyper College and North Park University.

It was a tough start for the Blue Angels, as they lost 25-18, 25-16, 20-25, 25-16. The third set was a battle to the end. The third set went back and forth, but the Blue Angels would end with a hot streak from See Yang (Fr./Milwaukee, Wis.) which started from the serve line, with the help of Molly Peck (Fr./Milwaukee, Wis.) towards the end of the set MMU held on to win their only set of the evening.

Kuyper College finished the fourth set in convincing fashion with a 25-16 set, and won the match 3-1. Sarah Longo (Fr./Allendale, Mich.) led the Cougars with 13 kills and Adrianna Bunce (Fr./Caledonia, Mich.) helped out with 12 kills of her own. Taylor Way () led the game with 32 assists.

The second game for the Navy Halos would pit them against the North Park University Vikings. The Vikings jumped out ahead quickly and didn't look back thereafter. The match would go 25-7, 25-11, 25-13 in a clean sweep for the NPU. Darby Switzer (Fr./Phoenix, Ariz.) of the Vikings, was on the mark with six serve aces, six kills, and 19 assists.

Sarah Wishau (Sr./Oak Creek, Wis.) and Taylor Baumgart (So./Burlington, Wis.) led the Blue Angels with four kills apiece.  Payton Hintz (Fr./Almond, Wis.) led the Blue Angels with nine assists.

Illinois Institute of Technology lost to North Park University in the second match of the day with a score of 21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 18-25. IIT then played Kuyper College, where IIT would win 25-10, 25-14, 25-22.

MMU will continue to co-host the Inferno-Angels Classic on Sept. 20 starting bright and early at 10:00 am. Match number one on the day will have the Blue Angels face off against the Silver Lake College Lakers. The Bloechl Center will host two more neutral site matches between, Illinois Tech will play Northland International University at 11:45 am and then Illinois Tech is scheduled to play Silver Lake at 1:15 pm. The classic will conclude with co-host Mount Mary University matching up against Northland International University at 2:45 pm.
