Tough End For Blue Angels

Tough End For Blue Angels

HANCOCK, Mich. -- Mount Mary University volleyball lost both games in their doubleheader today. The pair of losses concludes the four game invite at Finlandia University. Maranatha Baptist University and Alverno College were the culprits in today's matchups.

MMU's first opponent was Maranatha Baptist University, the Sabercats got ahead early. It seemed that MBU was on an "autopilot" of sorts as they just honed in and played each point with good rhythm and execution. The set scores went 25-10, 25-5, 25-13 in favor of MBU. Sarah Wishau (Sr./Oak Creek, Wis.) led the Blue Angels in kills with 10. Molly Peck (Fr./Milwaukee, Wis.) stepped up again in the setter role, and mustered 13 assists to head up the Angels in that stat.

It is time for another current season rematch for MMU in the Finlandia Invite, this time it was against Alverno College. The last time these two teams met, Inferno swept the Blue Angels in a 3-0 match. The Inferno kept it going today with three straight solid sets 25-15, 25-11, 25-9 over the Blue Angels. Alverno mixed up their roster, but continued to produce well in all positions. The Blue Angels were still trying to find out how they function without Payton Hintz (Fr./Almond, Wis.), who leads the team with 155 assists this year. Hintz has been plagued with an injury since the Inferno-Angels Classic seven days ago.

Coach Kelsey Peterson is hopeful the two losses will help prepare her team for the homestretch, "the next couple weeks we'll be focusin on closing our block and coming up with consistently strong and smart hits..."

Following today's finale of the Finlandia Invitational, the Blue Angels will host Northland International University for a rematch on Thursday Oct. 2 starting at 7:30 pm. NIU won in 3-1 match during the Inferno-Angels Classic on Sept. 20th. MMU will have three days of practice to adjust to the new lineup before the rematch.
