Windy City Volleyball For The Blue Angels

Windy City Volleyball For The Blue Angels

Time to hit the road again for the Blue Angels volleyball team. This time, they will head down to Chicago, Ill. to play the Illinois Institute of Technology. The match on Tuesday Oct. 7th begins at 7:00 pm, and will mark an onslaught of games crunched into a three week period for the Blue Angels.

It is the first time the two teams will face each other since MMU joined the NCAA in 2009. However, Illinois Tech has visited the Bloechl center, this season in fact. The Scarlet Hawks were members of this year's Inferno-Angels Classic, and played all four of their contests on the MMU campus. Illinois Tech went 3-1 in the event, losing only to North Park University. Since then, the Scarlet Hawks have not won a match, and have only won a single set out of five games.

The Blue Angels are still trying to find their best mix on the court. After Payton Hintz (Fr./Almond, Wis.) came back during the last contest against Northland International University, the setter fit right back into place as she created 17 assists in the match. This allowed Bethany Van Hammond (So./Appleton, Wis.) to remain in the libero spot, and gave Molly Peck (Fr./Milwaukee, Wis.) the opportunity to play more of the court. As Peck moved to setter in the absence of Hintz.

Sarah Wishau (Sr./Oak Creek, Wis.) leads the Blue Angels with kills at 119 and digs at 213. Wishau has been a leader by example this year to the very young Blue Angels squad.

Following Tuesday's match, the Blue Angels will host the first Mount Mary Triangular of the season. The triangular will be accompanied by not only Homecoming week for MMU, but every foodies' favorite event… PIZZA WARS! Starting on Oct. 10th at 4:00 pm at the Bloechl Center, MMU will play Maranatha Baptist University in game one, MBU will then turn around and play Moody Bible College on the same court. Following the neutral game, the Blue Angels will wrap things up against Moody Bible College at 8:00 pm on Friday. Come join the Blue Angels for good pizza and great volleyball!
