MMU Lose Final Match Of 2014

DUNBAR, Wis. – The Blue Angels lost the final game of the season tonight against Northland International University 3-0. This was the third time the two teams have met this season with NIU getting the sweep.

After a rough start to the first set for Mount Mary University; losing to NIU 25-9, the Blue Angels were able to muster some offense in the second set. MMU went down 9-8 to the Pioneers, and that is where NIU separated themselves rattling off five straight points, three of which were service aces. The Pioneers kept it going finishing the second set 25-16.

The final set of the night saw MMU get as close as 8-6 trailing the host team, but NIU again got into a rhythm serving and took the last set 25-13.

In her last NCAA volleyball match, Sarah Wishau (Sr./Oak Creek, Wis.) led the Blue Angels with eight kills and 16 digs. Katie Edwards (Sr./Mackinaw, Ill.) saw action in her final match and notched one assist for her team.

MMU's setter, Payton Hintz (Fr./Almond, Wis.), led the team again in assists with seven on the evening.

The night saw a lot of the Blue Angels bench hit the hardwood as Mikaela Kinjerski (So./Neenah, Wis.) and Nicole Guyett (Fr./St. Charles, Ill.) got time in multiple sets. It was a night where it was time to see what would be in store for next season.

It had been a tough season for the Blue Angels, but the dedication and work ethic of the team is evident to all that have seen them. With an extremely young team, the Blue Angels are looking to get next season started with both feet on the ground, and with an experienced roster to take to the 2015 season, MMU will have a shot at success.
