Regents Take Blue Angels In Four

Regents Take Blue Angels In Four

MILWAUKEE – As the Mount Mary University volleyball team continues to mature, they took another tough loss. This loss coming at the hands of Rockford University in a 3-1 match that showed plenty of fight from the Blue Angels.

The Blue Angels are now 0-2 on the young season, but have put up some good frames recently. Last season, MMU lost the second match against the Regents, all sets in that game the Blue Angels lost by more than 10 points. This season, the Blue Angels seem to pick themselves up when they get knocked down.

In the first set, the Regents won convincingly 25-12, but the second set showed all the heart of the Blue Angels. They battled back and forth with Rockford, trading points nearly every serve. Finally, the Blue angels took a 23-20 lead, and held on to that lead to finish the second set 25-23.

The next two sets swung in favor of the Regents, but MMU refused to let any scoring streak go too long. MMU dropped the final two sets 25-18 and 25-16 as the Regents went on to get the win and move to 2-2 on the young season.

Payton Hintz (So./Almond, Wis.) had another good match as she led the team with nine kills, and was second on the team with seven assists.

In general I was pleased with the team's progress tonight. I think if we keep moving in this direction we will be a team to watch out for. All the ladies really responded and made adjustments as we asked for them." Coach Kelsey Peterson went on, "I also think everyone had a clearer head in this game, and was able to focus on what was important in each moment. Amoroso and Carlson really stepped up to shut down Rockford's middles as much as possible, making those adjustments I talked about."

After the loss to the Regents, the Blue Angels will have little time to get ready for Moody Bible. The Archers role into the Bloechl Center Wednesday Sept. 9 beginning at 7:00 pm.
