Archers 3-0 Over Blue Angels

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University volleyball team lost 3-0 against visiting Moody Bible Institute Wednesday night at the Bloechl Center. The loss puts the Blue Angels at 0-3 on the season, and bumps the Archers to 4-2.

The first set of the night provided most of the sparks from the Blue Angels, they traded serves and points, but could not quite capture the lead long enough to come away with the set losing 25-21.

After the first, the Archers led a number of long rallies that put the sets out of reach early. The six foot frame of Rebekah Brandel along with her vertical, seemed to be the biggest problem for the Blue Angels tonight. The freshman had 17 kills on the evening and an amazing .500 killing percentage.

As much as the Blue Angels tried to adjust for the hard hitter, the twin attack of Brandel and Shelby Durham gave MMU fits defensively. Durham finished with 9 kills of her own.

Leading the way offensively for the Blue Angels was newcomer Julia Terasa (Jr./Waukesha, Wis.) who led with six assists and the highest kill percentage at .067. Two Blue Angels tied with three kills Katy Carlson (Fr./Whitewater, Wis.) and Payton Hintz (So./Almond, Wis.).

The loss moves the series to 8-3 in favor of the Archers since MMU moved to NCAA DIII.

The Blue Angels will have a few days to prepare for their next contest which is Mon. Sept. 14 at Silver Lake College. The Lakers play out of Manitowoc, Wis. and the match between the schools will begin at 7:00 pm.
