Blue Angels Drop Two In Triangular

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University volleyball team played host at the Mount Mary Triangular today at the Bloechl Center. The Blue Angels (1-6) lost their first match 3-0 to rival Alverno 4-8 (0-2), then the Inferno came from behind 2-0 in the second match to win 3-2 over Beloit 4-8. The day's final match saw the visiting Bucs defeat the Blue Angels 3-0.

In the first match, the combo of Jessica Wewers and Melissa Weyand took control with a combined 23 kills. A very efficient duo, Wewers finished with a .222 kill percentage, and Weyand a .381 percentage. Alverno's Meranda Masse led the match with 31 assists.

The efficient scoring from the Inferno led them to a big lead early. The Blue Angels put up their best fight in the first frame losing 25-21. After that, the Inferno won the remaining sets 25-17, 25-18.

A very tough team to deal with from behind the line as well, the Inferno finished match one with 16 service aces. Five a piece for Weyand and Danielle Schilawski.

Leading the Blue Angels in kills and kill percentage in match one was Lauren Harris (Fr./Sheridan, Ill.) with 6 kills and .250 percentage. Julia Terasa (Jr./Waukesha, Wis.) and Payton Hintz (So./Almond, Wis.) each had five assists in the match to lead their team.

The final match of the triangular saw the Bucs come out very hot on offense. Finishing with a .481 kill percentage in the first set led the Bucs to a 25-14 win. The second set finished in a similar fashion 25-15 win for the Bucs.

The third and final frame saw the Blue Angels put up their best fight of the evening. They finished with a match high .147 kill percentage, but the effective serves from the Bucs limited the Blue Angels opportunities late. The Bucs would go down 15-10, but storm back to win 25-23.

Beloit's Taylor Lewis led the game with 12 kills and finished with an astounding .611 kill percentage.

Hintz led the Blue Angels in their second match with eight kills and helped out with five assists of her own. Sarah Amoroso (So./Wauwatosa, Wis.) followed suit with four kills and led her team with .143 kill percentage.

Following today's matches, the Blue Angels will get ready for Moody Bible. The Archers will host MMU Fri. Sept. 25 in Chicago, Ill. with the match starting at 7:00 pm.
