Rams And Tigers Take Wins

HANCOCK, Mich. – The Mount Mary University volleyball team dropped both matches in day one of the Finlandia Tournament today. Match one the Blue Angels lost 3-0 to North Central (Minn.), then 3-1 to Grace Bible. The pair of losses makes the Blue Angels 2-12 on the season.

In the first match the Rams jumped out early and took control. NCU's hitting percentage was on target, finishing with .171 as a team on the match opposed to the Blue Angels .000, leading the Rams to a 25-14, 25-17, 25-18 win.

The Rams Karlee Huber led the team with nine kills. Teammate Karlee Cox had eight kills, but with her precision and lack of errors she finished with an amazing .421 hitting percentage.

For the Blue Angels, Lauren Harris (Fr./Sheridan, Ill.) continued to impress in her rookie campaign. Harris finished eight kills and 17 digs to lead her squad. Julia Terasa (Jr./Waukesha, Wis.) led the team in the first match with 11 assists.

With a long delay between games, MMU entered the second match against the Tigers with more intensity. The Blue Angels jumped out in front and took the first set 25-22. A set where the Blue Angels had nine team kills.

After that, the Blue Angels attack errors led to a negative hitting percentage on the day. The Tigers took advantage as they stayed on point with a .187 hitting percentage in the match, and took the next three sets 25-13, 25-19, 25-13.

In the second match, Katy Carlson (Fr./Whitewater, Wis.) led the team with seven kills and was quite active with 36 total attacks. Julia Terasa continued her maestro role leading the team with 11 assists against the Tigers.

The Tigers Adrianna Bunce led the squad as usual in kills, this time with a contest leading 15 kills. Bunce accuracy led to a hitting percentage of .244 in 45 total attacks. Abby Schultz led the way with 26 assists in the match.

The Blue Angels still have two more matches in the Finlandia Tournament starting tomorrow Sat. Oct. 10. First an exhibition contest against Gogebic Community College at 12:30 pm, then promptly following the conclusion of that a finale against host Finlandia University. The match against the Lions can be seen here beginning at 2:00 pm.
