Blue Angels Clutch Against Eagles

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Mount Mary University volleyball team defeated host Emmaus Bible College 3-2 today at the Pollard Fieldhouse. The win over the Eagles breaks a nine match losing streak for MMU and boosts the Blue Angels record to 3-16 and drops EBC to 12-10.

As the Blue Angels get set for the first ever post season conference tournament, they add another win to their tally. The Blue Angels offense has been picking up as of late. Most recently a down to the wire battle against Grace Bible College that went for extra points, but ultimately the Tigers won 3-2.Tonight the Blue Angels refused to follow the same path.

Winning the first and third sets by two points each, the Blue Angels went to the fifth tied 2-2 against the Eagles. Emmaus jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but MMU came back firing five points straight. The Eagles fought back to make it 7-4 Blue Angels, after that MMU rattled off three more streaks to take the final set 15-6.

Newcomer Lauren Harris (Fr./Sheridan, Ill.) led the attack with 16 kills. Sheridan finished with an accurate .174 hitting percentage and helped out with 23 digs.

Teammates Julia Terasa (Jr./Waukesha, Wis.) and Payton Hintz (So./Almond, Wis.) setup the offense with 20 and 17 assists respectively. Rachel Barker (So./Milwaukee, Wis.) led the squad defensively with three total blocks.

Wrapping up the regular season on the road, the Blue Angels will head to Beloit College to face the Buccaneers Sat. Oct. 31 at 1:00 pm.
