Bucs Beat Blue Angels 3-0

BELOIT, Wis. – The Mount Mary University volleyball team lost their 2015 regular season finale to host Beloit College 3-0. The Buccaneers will move to 5-19 while the loss for the Blue Angels gives them a 3-17 record on the year.

Right out of the gate the Bucs were firing attacks accurately. Hitting a team .105 hitting percentage in the first set, is what gave Beloit the edge and led to a 25-18 winning frame.

In the second set, the Blue Angels jumped out to an early 3-2 lead. After that the Bucs had three quick four point streaks to separate themselves just enough to take the 25-21 set.

Falling behind by as much as eight points in the final frame, the Blue Angels battled back, but could never get within three points. Beloit ultimately took the set 25-22 and the 3-0 sweep.

Shelby Strehlow finished with a very accurate .333 hitting percentage with seven kills and was one of the reasons the Bucs got the upper hand.

For the Blue Angels, Katy Carlson (Fr./Whitewater, Wis.) scored a match leading nine kills on 29 total attacks. Carlson also finished with a team high one block assist with Sarah Amoroso (So./Wauwatosa, Wis.).

Payton Hintz (So./Almond, Wis.) finished the match with eight kills and seven assists. Her teammate Julia Terasa (Jr./Waukesha, Wis.) led the way for MMU with 14 assists.

Now that the Blue Angels finish the regular season, they will prepare for their first appearance in the Great South Athletic Conference tournament. As of now the Blue Angels are looking at a five seed in the post season tournament with games concluding this weekend for all GSAC teams.

The first time NCAA conference tourney means an opportunity to earn a seed in the NCAA national championship tournament. If the Blue Angels can finish with a three match winning streak, they could be the first ever MMU team to compete in an NCAA post season tournament.

The GSAC volleyball tournament begins Fri. Nov. 6 on the campus of Agnes Scott in Decatur, GA. Stay updated at mtmaryathletics.com.
