Blue Angels Sweep Lakers

Blue Angels Sweep Lakers

MILWAUKEE – Tonight at the Bloechl Center, Mount Mary University Volleyball defeated Silver Lake in a 3-0 sweep. The second full match sweep for the Blue Angels gives them a 2-5 record on the season, while the Lakers are now 3-12 on the year.

In set one, the Blue Angels jumped out to an early lead, and would only surrender it one time to a tie at 8-8. After the tie, MMU attacked and never let up until the frame ended 25-19.

During the second set, MMU had one of their most effective sets of the season. Starting off the set down 10-5 to Silver Lake, Payton Hintz (Jr./Almond, Wis.) took control of serving and quickly tied things up. As team, the Blue Angels had 11 team kills with five team errors on their way to a .207 kill percentage.

That effectiveness led to the turnaround 25-20 second set win for MMU and paved the way to a quick 4-1 lead over the Lakers in set three. The teams battled back and forth and were all knotted up at 10, when the Blue Angels went on a big 15-5 run to finish the third set 25-15.

Blue Angels Lauren Harris (So./Sheridan, Ill.) and Katy Carlson (So./Whitewater, Wis.) led the attack upfront with six and five kills respectively while keeping their attack percentage positive.

Teammate Hintz led the game with four services aces and also kept accurate with a .200 kill percentage. Kalyn Jarrett (So./La Porte, Ind.) led the Blue Angels with a .333 kill percentage and also chipped in with three service aces on the way to the MMU win.

The next time the Blue Angels will take the court will be this Friday when they host a pair of contests against Alverno (2-13) and Grinnell (4-7). The matches begin with MMU taking on Alverno at 4:00 pm, then the doubleheader's conclusion with the Blue Angels facing Grinnell at 6:00 pm.
