Archers Takedown Blue Angels

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University volleyball team lost to visiting Moody Bible Institute today at the Bloechl Center. The Archers won 3-0 and now move to 7-9 on the season while MMU is now 4-11.

Trailing 3-0 to start the match, the Blue Angels bounced back and took a 6-5 lead. The teams traded points until a kill from the Archers Alex Hunter tied things up at 17-17. After the tie, Moody went on an 8-4 run to take the first set 25-21.

In the second set the Blue Angels enjoyed a 4-1 lead to begin play. After a service error from the Blue Angels, MMU still had a one point lead at 5-4. That is when MBU's kills leader Rebekah Brandel took over at the service line and guided her team to 6-1 run. The Archers never gave up the lead for the rest of the set and finished with a 25-17 win.

The final set saw the Archers jump out 10-1 lead before a timeout by Mount Mary Head Volleyball Coach Kelsey Peterson quickly got MMU their second point of the match while calming the nerves of the team. MMU's biggest run of the third came when the Archers led 23-9 and the Blue Angels rattled off three straight points.

Lauren Harris (So./Sheridan, Ill.) led the Blue Angel attack with .308 hitting percentage and five kills and one error. Teammate Marissa Tun (Jr./Greenfield, Wis.) helped steer that offensive attack with a team leading 14 assists.

Fellow Blue Angels Alyssa Nelson (Jr./Rockford, Ill.) began the game by singing the National Anthem with her brother Nikk, then led MMU with 17 digs as she gets used to her new role as libero.

After tonight's contest, the Blue Angels will get ready for their three match trip through Minnesota. The road trip begins Thu. Oct. 13 against Crown College (1-17) in St. Bonifacius, Minn. The match begins at 6:00 pm on Crown's campus, then Fri. Oct. 14 MMU will travel to North Central (Minn.) to take on host NCU and Association of Division III Independents rival Finlandia (7-15).
