Storm Stop Blue Angels

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The Mount Mary University volleyball team dropped a match to host Crown College 3-1 tonight at the Wild Athletic Center. The Blue Angels are now 4-12 on the season while the Storm are now 2-19.

The Storm took the first set 25-19 over MMU, but the Blue Angels attack was on point as they had seven team kills, three errors on 35 total attacks. One of the most effective offensive attacks for Mount Mary this season, the Blue Angels would carry that over into the second set.

With eight team kills and a .071 hitting percentage, the Blue Angels took the second set 25-17. The Blue Angels attack from the serve line and up front made the difference.

The Storm won the final two sets, but MMU battled to the very last point and turned around a seven point deficit to a nail-biting 25-23 fourth set that gave Crown the match.

Payton Hintz (Jr./Almond, Wis.) led the offensive strike with seven kills, four errors on 25 total attacks. Teammate Marissa Tun (Jr./Greenfield, Wis.) had 16 assists in the match to steer the team's offense.

After one of the most memorable days from the serve line on Oct. 1, where MMU tied the service ace record in match one with 19 then set a new school record at 31, the Blue Angels launched 16 service aces against the Storm. Six of those service aces against Crown came off the hand of Lauren Harris (So./Sheridan, Ill.).

After tonight's match the Blue Angels will have a doubleheader tomorrow, Oct. 14, against host North Central (Minn.) and AD3I rival Finlandia. The back-to-back matches begin at 4:00 pm and will have live stats available at mtmartathletics.com. All live stats are courtesy of North Central University Athletics.
