Cougars Corral Win

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University volleyball team lost to visiting Concordia University Chicago today at the Bloechl Center. The Cougars 3-0 win over the Blue Angels moves them to 6-22 on the year while MMU now sits at 5-16 with one match left in the 2016 season.

The Cougars grabbed the lead early in the first set, and never would give it back after an attack error on MMU at 6-6. Following that, a pair of consecutive service aces by CUC's Austin Thompson gave the Cougars a two three point cushion which CUC took to a 25-17 set win.

MMU turned the tables to begin the second set. With the score at 7-7, the Blue angels went on a 9-3 run including four kills off the hand of Lauren Harris (So./Sheridan, Ill.). The Cougars finished the set on an 11-5 run to take the set in extra points 26-24.

CUC led the entire final set. One of the sparks provided by the Blue Angels came when Lauren Harris brought the game to within one point after back-to-back service aces. However, the Cougars followed that up with a 5-0 run and went on to win the set 25-13.

Harris led the attack against the Cougars with nine kills, four errors o 26 total attacks. Harris also led MMU with three service aces. Teammate Marissa Tun (Jr./Greenfield, Wis.) again led the offense with 10 assists and 18 digs.

Following tonight's match, the Blue Angels will have a quick turnaround as they host Beloit College (9-14) tomorrow Sat. Oct. 29 at 1:00 pm. The Buccaneers defeated the Blue Angels earlier this season 3-0 at Alverno College. The 2016 finale will have both live stats and live video available at mtmaryathletics.com.
