MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University volleyball team lost to visiting Beloit College in their 2016 season finale. Beloit (10-15) won the match 3-0 making the Blue Angels 5-17 on the 2016 campaign.
To begin the match, the two teams traded points consecutively until the Buccaneers grabbed control. The score at 7-6 Beloit, the Bucs went on a 5-0 run to give themselves enough cushion to win the set 25-18.
MMU led to begin the second set 5-1. Following a few adjustments by the Bucs, Beloit then went on a 7-3 run to tie the match. A few rallies quickly gave Beloit a 23-14 lead, but the Blue Angels sparked a late rally of their own. Facing a ten-point set loss, the Blue Angels took five straight points back to put the pressure back on the Buccaneers. BC took the final two points of the set winning 25-19.
MMU trailed again in the final frame. The Bucs took a quick lead and transformed that into a 24-12 lead as they only had two team errors in the entire set. The Blue Angels again pushed back hard with their backs to the wall and rattled off five straight points before the Bucs ended the match with a 25-17 set win.
Katy Carlson (So./Whitewater, Wis.) led the offense today for the Blue Angels as she struck for seven kills on 23 total attacks. Teammate Lauren Harris (So./Sheridan, Ill.) was right behind Carlson in kills with six of her own on 27 total attacks.
Marissa Tun (Jr./Greenfield, Wis.) cleaned up the floor and served her teammates with a team leading 18 kills along with 20 digs.
