Archers Take Blue Angels 3-1

Archers Take Blue Angels 3-1

CHICAGO – The Mount Mary University volleyball team lost a 3-1 match against host Moody Bible Institute (2-5). The Blue Angels (0-3) trailed early, but flipped the script in the third set to take it 25-22. Following today's loss, the Blue Angels will prepare for their rival Silver Lake College Tue. Sept. 12 on the campus of UW-Manitowoc.

"It was definitely the best we have played against them [Moody Bible] in a long time," said Mount Mary Head Volleyball Coach Kelsey Peterson. "We maintained our energy a lot more tonight then in the past. We had things going in that third set, but lost the energy."

The Blue Angels were in each set tonight including the opening two frames that ended 25-18 in favor of the Archers. MBI attacked with plenty of accuracy and hit .200 team kill percentage or higher in each of those sets.

Although getting pegged with seven team errors and three kills in the second frame, MMU bounced back in the third.

MMU jumped out to an early lead in the third, but their opposition did not give in. The Archers led 10-8, but a couple subsequent attack errors by MBI gave the Blue Angels enough of an opening to take the lead in that set in which they would not surrender.

The come-from-behind set energized the Blue Angels with some very difficult shots in the final 10 points.

"We had some really great hits." Coach Peterson went on, "Mel [MelanIe Coffey] did a great job at finding the holes in their defense and sending it down the line."

The Archers took the final set 25-13. MBI had one of their most accurate sets as a team in the fourth with 10 team kills, one team error on 23 total attacks.

Coffey and Lauren Harris (Jr./Sheridan, Ill.) each had seven official kills on the night to lead the Blue Angels upfront. Payton Hintz (Sr./Almond, Wis.) led the team with two service aces.

The Blue Angels will rest up and prepare for their upcoming game against Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, Wis. Tue. Sept. 12. First serve begins at 7:00 pm, follow mtmaryathletics.com for updates and final scores.
