Eagles Grab Win

MILWAUKEE – As the 2017 season winds down, visiting Emmaus Bible College came into the Bloechl Center today to grab a 3-1 win over the Mount Mary University volleyball team. The Eagles (18-2) took the match 25-10, 25-17, 18-25 and 25-18 to get the win over the Blue Angels (0-18) on MMU's Senior Day.

In the first set the Eagles took initial control with a 12-0 run. The Blue Angels got on the board when senior Sarah Amoroso (Wauwatosa, Wis.) got the team's first point on a kill assisted by fellow senior Payton Hintz (Almond, Wis.) to end the run for the Eagles.

MMU went on a four point run of their own, but the Eagles ended their rally and went on to take the set 25-10.

The second set the Blue Angels jumped out to a 3-0 lead. While the opposition continued to work away, MMU led 5-3, then the Eagles went on a five point run which gave EBC the lead and they would not surrender it again in the set.

Although the teams were even in the second set on kills, the Eagles were able to pull away at the service line to grab the 25-17 win.

The revitalized Blue Angels fought back in the third set. Although the Eagles grabbed a 5-0 lead, MMU chipped away until they rattled off a seven point run to overtake the lead 12-7. While the opposition missed with a game high 12 errors in the set, the Blue Angels capitalized with five team kills on their 41 total attacks.

MMU held onto the lead and flipped the table on their opponent with a 25-18 winning set to make things 2-1 overall in the match.

The Eagles slowly crept back in the fourth set. MMU took control 2-0, but multiple kill-shots from Winne Vandersall put the EBC back in front.

The Blue Angels attacked with a game high 10 team kills on 45 total attacks in the final set, however, the Eagles also supplied their most accurate set of the night with 14 kills on their 48 total attacks on their way to 25-18 winning set.

Blue Angel Adrianna Nester (So./Anaheim, Calif.) led the Blue Angels attack with nine kills on 30 total attacks.

Senior Payton Hintz led the game with 23 assists, her season high. Fellow senior Rachel Barker (Milwaukee, Wis.) did her part in her final match in the Bloechl Center with six kills on 21 total attacks.

Sarah Amoroso and Amelia Flint (Jr./ Whitefish Bay, Wis.) helped out in their final match at Mount Mary with three and one kills respectively.

Following tonight's match, the Blue Angels will prepare for their next match against Maranatha Baptist University (14-13) in Watertown, Wis. on Tue. Oct. 24. Live stats and video will be available for Tuesday night's match with coverage starting at 7:00 pm. Links can be found at mtmaryathletics.com.
